Pre-load date

Rockstar and Take-Two confirmed in June that digital pre-orders can pre-load from November 12, 2026, so that players can start the moment the game unlocks. The physical edition is a download code in a box (there's no disc), and it goes on sale on November 12 too, so boxed buyers can pre-load the same way after redeeming the code.

Pre-load time

Rockstar has only given a date. Stores often open pre-loads at a set hour, but no time has been confirmed for GTA VI. Check your console's download queue on the morning of November 12, and we'll add the time here once it's official.

Download size

Until then, the practical advice is simple: free up as much internal storage as you can before November 12, and leave extra room for any updates. Our launch-day checklist has a storage checklist.

Unlock time on November 19

The US PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store list the release as 05:00 UTC on November 19, 2026, which is midnight ET (9 p.m. PT on November 18). According to store data reported by Kotaku, the unlock rolls around the world at midnight local time, starting in New Zealand. Rockstar hasn't published an official unlock-time table. Count down on our release date hub.

Pre-load checklist

  1. Pre-order the digital edition, or buy the boxed code from November 12.
  2. Clear internal storage ahead of time.
  3. Turn on automatic downloads or keep your console in rest mode overnight.
  4. On November 12, check that the download has started.
  5. Install any update that arrives before launch.
