GTA VI comes in two editions, and only two. This guide lists everything in each so you can decide in a few minutes. Short version: the base game is identical, and Ultimate is a bundle of extra in-game items and businesses.

The quick answer

  • Buy Standard ($79.99) if you just want the game, or you want a boxed copy.
  • Buy Ultimate ($99.99) if you want the extra cars, weapons, outfits and businesses from day one and you're happy with digital only.
  • Not sure? Buy Standard. You can upgrade for $20 later. At today's prices, that adds up to the same as buying Ultimate now.

Prices by region

RegionStandardUltimateUpgrade
US$79.99$99.99$20
UK£69.99£89.99£20
Eurozone€79.99€99.99€20
CanadaCA$109.99CA$139.99CA$30
AustraliaA$129.95A$159.95A$30

These are Xbox Store digital prices checked on September 26, 2026. Retail prices can differ. In Canada and Australia, Standard plus upgrade costs exactly the Ultimate price too.

What both editions get

  • The full game. The story, the world and everything in it are the same.
  • The Vintage Vice City Pack if you buy before November 20, 2026: a two-tone '55 Vapid Stanier, the Shore Court garage near Ocean Beach (with a weapon locker and a stash), retro outfits and hair for Jason and Lucia, and a tropical weapon pattern based on Tommy Vercetti's palm-tree shirt.
  • One month of GTA+, but only for digital pre-orders. It works in today's GTA Online and the GTA+ Games Library.

What Ultimate adds

Rockstar says the Ultimate content unlocks as you progress through the story's chapters, rather than all at once.

TypeWhat you get
Cars'95 Grotti Cheetah, a mid-'90s sports car with a retro livery
Off-road'67 Vapid Dominator Buggy and the Paradise Garage in Watson Bay

Side activitiesThe Classic Car Collection commission for a collector called Wyman, and a raid on the PTT Youngin$ gang's goods store
BusinessesRideout Customs, Sara's Unisex Salon, Stock 305, Electric Fang Tattoo and One-Eyed Willie's

The five businesses are Ultimate-only. They include a custom car shop, a salon, a streetwear store, a tattoo parlour with more than 50 designs by the art collective FAILE, and an off-road shop in Lake Leonida.

Digital or physical?

  • Ultimate is digital only.
  • Standard comes digitally or as a physical "code in box". The box has no disc, just a download code.
  • Physical copies go on sale on November 12, so boxed buyers can pre-load too.
  • Physical owners can buy the Ultimate upgrade after redeeming their code, according to Rockstar Support as reported by IGN.

What about a collector's edition?

There isn't one. The $399.99 Goodtime State – Vice City Collection is a merch box (figure, sunglasses, cap, a Leonida map poster and more) and doesn't include the game. See what's in it.

Are there microtransactions?

Rockstar told press there are no microtransactions in GTA VI at launch. The Ultimate Edition, and the upgrade to it, are the paid extras Rockstar has announced.

Our recommendation

If you're sure you want the extra cars and businesses, buy Ultimate digitally before November 20. If you want a boxed copy, or you'd rather decide once you've played, buy Standard and keep the $20 upgrade in your back pocket.
