The longest look at Grand Theft Auto VI yet arrived on August 27, 2026. An Extended Look, a roughly 27-minute video, premiered on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET and reached YouTube and Rockstar's site at 9 p.m. ET, after six hours as a Netflix exclusive. Rockstar says it was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.

Rockstar announced the premiere on August 6. It's the third major GTA VI video, but Rockstar never calls it "Trailer 3", and uploads using that name come from fan channels.

The previews: what Rockstar showed press

The same day, coverage went live from a hands-off preview held in July, where Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson played the game live for outlets including IGN, The New York Times and Kinda Funny. Everything in this section comes from those previews and from what the footage shows, so it's labelled reported rather than official.

Two leads, one partnership

You can switch between Jason and Lucia in free roam, as in GTA V, though some story moments block it. The other lead can be called or texted to join you, and in a car one of you can drive while the other shoots. The idle character keeps their own schedule and texts you, and ignoring them can strain the relationship. An optional romance can grow through time spent together outside missions, or stay platonic.

Six stars are back

The maximum wanted level returns to six stars, up from GTA V's five. Crimes need a witness or an alarm, and icons under the stars show what police know: your face, your outfit, your vehicle, and whether they're looking for a couple. We cover the details in our wanted system guide.

Crime, cash and cars

  • Robberies: stores, businesses and banks, solo or together, with a choice between speed and loot.
  • Fences: sell stolen jewellery and cars.
  • Car theft: reworked around security tiers, with a phone app called WAINK that scans a car's value, lock, alarm and tracker.
  • Criminal Profile: a reputation system that tracks gratuitous chaos, but not violence a mission requires.

A living state

Rockstar told press the game has more than 600,000 NPC animations, against about 55,000 in GTA V. Nelson told press the map is roughly twice the size of GTA V's and three times Red Dead Redemption 2's, and that his own recent playthrough took about 80 hours. That's not an official campaign length.

Frame rate

Preview attendees report the game runs at 30 fps at launch. Nelson reportedly said it was 30 fps "for now" and that he'd have to check with the tech team about 60 fps. No performance mode has been confirmed, and neither has what the PlayStation Store's "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label means in practice.

The numbers

The premiere pulled a big audience. The Extended Look drew 31.1 million Netflix views from August 27 to 30, and was Netflix's No. 1 English-language film in 87 of 93 countries, according to reports. On Rockstar's YouTube channel it had about 29.2 million views by September 26, 2026. See how that compares with the first two trailers in our trailer records roundup.

A tense week

The premiere followed a difficult few days for Rockstar. On August 26, the studio described a new wave of leaked gameplay videos as heartbreaking for its team. SixStars doesn't describe or link leaked material.

What's next

Game Informer revealed a GTA VI cover story on September 25, with its digital edition due on September 29. Launch is November 19, 2026. Until then, watch the Extended Look above or on our trailers page.
