GTA 6 launches as a single-player game: where that leaves GTA Online
GTA 6 is sold as a single-player experience with no online mode announced. Here's what Rockstar and Take-Two have said about GTA Online, GTA+ and multiplayer.

If you're hoping to jump into Leonida with friends on November 19, 2026, here's the clear answer: Grand Theft Auto VI launches as a single-player game. Take-Two's pre-order announcement on June 24, 2026 describes it as "a single-player experience", and no GTA VI online mode has been announced. There's no name for one and no date.
What the listings say
The store pages match the announcement:
- The Xbox Store lists the game as "Single player".
- The PlayStation Store lists 1 player and "Offline play only".
For now, GTA VI is a story game for one player.
The GTA+ pre-order bonus is for GTA V
One pre-order bonus causes confusion. Digital pre-orders include a free month of GTA+, Rockstar's subscription, but it applies to today's GTA Online (the GTA V version) and the GTA+ Games Library. It isn't a GTA VI online pass. The listed perks include a GTA$500,000 monthly deposit, a 15% bonus on Shark Cards, free and discounted GTA Online vehicles, and access to the classic games library.
According to the Xbox terms, you need to redeem it within 180 days of pre-ordering. Our GTA+ guide explains when it's worth activating.
GTA Online isn't going anywhere
At its September 2026 shareholder meeting, Take-Two said it will continue to support GTA Online after GTA VI's release and beyond, according to GamingBolt's report. So if GTA Online is your main game, nothing announced so far ends it.
Rockstar is also still investing in GTA V's community. On September 8, 2026, it opened a closed beta for Nopixel V, a GTA V roleplay experience, through the Rockstar Games Launcher. That's a GTA V product, not a GTA VI one. Two days later, Rockstar updated its modding guidelines, asking creators to "respect our games": no new story missions, no ports of maps or assets between games, and no unauthorised monetisation, as Kotaku and GamesRadar reported.
Claims you may have seen
Fans have also linked a character in the Extended Look, a fixer called Valentina, to a character from GTA Online's 2025 Money Fronts update. Outlets including Kotaku covered the theory, but Rockstar hasn't confirmed it.
